The company has also launched a campaign called "Green process, green product, green mind" to highlight its activities.
President Chaovalit Ekabut said it would focus on minimising waste and reducing negative impact on the environment.
The firm also seeks to use natural resources more efficiently and improve its production output. "We will urge our customers to consider buying recycled paper, which is part of the green process," he said.
It has used various measures to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions and wasteful energy consumption.
SCG Paper plans to reduce CO2 emissions by 5 per cent per tonne of paper-pulp production by 2012.
It is also increasing the use of biomass fuel from 35 per cent to 40 per cent in the same time scale, he said.
The company aims to be the first Thai paper-maker to obtain certification from the Forest Stewardship Council, a recognised international body promoting and setting standards for sustainable forest management.
SCG Paper's production capacity is currently 2 million tonnes a year. About 1.6 million tonnes is used for packaging and as industrial paper. The rest is for printing and writing paper.
Capacity will be raised to 2.1 million tonnes this year following the completion of a plant in Khon Kaen.
"The plant has a total production capacity of 200,000 tonnes per year and will commence operations mid-year," Chaovalit said.
Its Bt5.2-billion kraft paper plant in Vietnam is scheduled for completion next year with a yearly capacity of 220,000 tonnes.
He said the company had spent Bt1.2 billion to Bt1.5 billion on new plants at Navanakorn Industrial Estate, Khon Kaen and Rayong.
"We have no other investment project yet, but we are looking at opportunities to expand abroad," he added.
