More power sought for IP officers

Deputy Commerce Minister Banyin Tangpaporn is asking the Cabinet next week to amend the regulations on intellectual property (IP), which will give more power to officers in arresting violators.

He believed that the higher power would result in lower IP violation.

"This will show the international community of Thailand's commitment in solving the problem. The Commerce Ministry will soon inform ambassadors of Thailand's policies in suppressing violations," he said.

The United States is to revise Thailand's trade status at the end of April, citing that poor violation could lead to a downgrade which could affect Thailand's exports to the country.
