MAI promotes SME listing

The Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion has joined hands with the Market for Alternative Investment and foreign funds to prepare SMEs for listing on the second-tier exchange.

Target companies are those in the auto parts, food and energy sectors.

The OSMEP has also established a fund to enhance Thai companies' competitiveness. The Bt500 millon fund, to invest Bt1-Bt100 million in target companies for 7 years, is now selecting 20 companies for such investment. Target companies are in the alternative energy, auto and fashion industry.

According to the office, the number of small and medium-sized enterprises is expected to increase 1.76 per cent this year to 2.3 million. The companies hire 7.28 million workers, up 2.48 per cent from last year. Combined revenue would rise 3.45 per cent to Bt5.89 trillion.

However, they would generate only Bt207.8 billion in economic value, 21.56 per cent down from last year. Productivity per head is also expected to drop to Bt53,000, down 20.08 per cent from last year, due to internal and external factors.
