Constitution amendments a must : Sanan

Deputy Prime Minister Sanan Kachornprasart on Monday threw support on Monday behind charter rewrite, saying he saw no justification for a leeway to easily disband a party which would be harmful to the political system.

"I think it's not fair to penalise a political party for individual wrongdoing," he said.

He was referring to the legal proceedings against his Chart Thai Party relating to vote-buying in the December election committed by a party deputy leader Monthian Songpracha in Chai Nat.

Sanan said coalition parties would soon hold a meeting to map out how to amend the 2007 Constitution. A panel might be formed to study amendments deemed nececessary and the review process should involve the public participation but not to the extent of holding a referendum, he said.

Sanan was a former secretary general of Democrat Party that opposed the constitution rewriting.

Two other coalition parties, People Power and Matchima Thipataya, are facing a similar legal wrangling as Chart Thai.
