'Yongyuth Get Out': man shouts, setting himself ablaze

A man shouted a demand for House speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat to step down before he set himself ablaze in front of Parliament and was severely injured early Friday morning.

The man arrived at Parliament at 5 am on his motorcycle and took off his clothes and poured petrol over himself.

Police said the man shouted "Yongyuth Get Out" and lit himself up.

Parliament officials rushed out to put out the fire and rushed him to Watchira Hospital.

He was admitted to the intensive care unit and put on a respiratory system. His face and body suffered from first-degree burn.

Police said the man was later identified as Man Trujmakkha, 44, a resident of Buri Ram's Krasang district.

He has been working in Bangkok as a meatball deliverer in Sriyan area not far from Parliament.

Police said the man was still in critical condition and could not testify on the cause of his protest yet.

The event followed a decision by the Supreme Court to conduct a judicial review in the case that Yongyuth was accused by the Election Commission of buying votes.

But it was not certain whether the man had mental problems or not because his motorcycle carried an ice box with words painted as: "Sangthong and Rojana, if you want power, don't lack justice". Sangthong and Rojana are figures from a Thai literature.

Police said Man's friends described him as having mental problem but liked to join anti-government protests.
