Mercedes out to steal the show

Mercedes-Benz Thailand will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a double world premier for right-hand-drive versions of its new-generation SL and SLK models at the Bangkok International Motor Show.

The 10-day show runs from next Friday to April 6.

At the event, the company will also showcase four new models and launch a new luxury S 320 CDI.

President and CEO Wolfgang Huppenbauer said the concept for his company's 1,620-square-metre display was "The Road to the Future". It would highlight not only the present range of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, but also the brand's technology, design and safety components.

The special highlight for the company's 10th anniversary will be the world premier of two new right-hand-drive roadsters: the new-generation SL 350 and SLK 200 K. Thai customers will be able to experience these two models just as visitors would at any other world-class international motor show, he said.

Also on hand will be other niche vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, including the ML 280 CDI Edition 10 and the most-favoured luxury car, the S 320 CDI.

Five models of the E-Class range will also be displayed: the E 200 Kompressor, the E 230 2.5, the E 220 CDI, the E 280 3.0 and the E 200 NGT. Mercedes-Benz says the E 200 NGT is the most powerful natural-gas-driven saloon and environmentally friendly vehicle ever built.

Mercedes-Benz is offering zero interest for the purchase of selected E models, and first-class insurance for two years will be given to any cash buyers.

Last year, Mercedes-Benz claimed leadership of Thailand's luxury-car segment for the seventh consecutive year, with sales of 4,024 vehicles, giving the company a 55.9-per-cent market share.
