The three-time Roland Garros winner is bowing out of the game this spring after several years of hip-surgery recovery problems.
The former number one is planning on playing as a free entry in the French Open and has indicated he is also keen to compete for one last time on clay in Rome or Hamburg.
In addition, he said that should Brazil ask him to play in the Beijing Olympics, he would delay his departure until August.
"The tournament's organising committee has decided to pay tribute to Gustavo Kuerten by granting him the first wildcard," said Monte Carlo officials.
The 31-year-old won Monte Carlo in 1999 and 2001. "I was champion twice, both very special wins," he said.
