Blackburn sign Swiss star Vogel

London (dpa) - Blackburn Rovers announced Tuesday that they have signed Switzerland midfielder Johann Vogel on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old, who has played for Real Betis, AC Milan and PSV Eindhoven, impressed during a trial and, being unattached, was eligible to sign despite the transfer window being closed.

Vogel had been released by Betis following a legal dispute.

Subject to international clearance, Vogel, who captained Switzerland at the 2006 World Cup, will sign a two-and-a-half year contract.
