The Siam Society is hosting a lecture by historian Julispong Chularatana on "Iranian Relations with Siam" on Thursday at 7.30pm.
The people of what would become Iran were in informal contact with the Siamese even before King Prasatthong came to the throne. The Shahs of the Safavid dynasty established diplomatic relations and trade between the two kingdoms, and relations between the Iranian and Siamese courts became closer when Phra Narai, a younger son of Prasatthong, forged ties with the Iranian community of Ayutthaya.
Dr Julispong holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from the King Mongkut Institute of Technology, a master's in the history of architecture from Silpakorn University and a PhD in history from Chulalongkorn University.
