Thailand Post's senior executive vice president Woodtipong Moleechad said the state agency is in talks with famous restaurants nationwide on collaboration to deliver some of their meals to their customers after receiving orders under the slogan "You can order tasty meals nationwide at Thailand Post".
"People in Bangkok who want to eat delicious food from Chiang Mai can place an order with us," he added but declined to give more details of the planned service.
The service is aimed at generating additional income for the state agency, which can capitalise on its existing staff and infrastructure to provide the service.
"We have to explore all opportunities to create new revenue," he added.
Last year Thailand Post had revenue of Bt16.625 billion. Its net profit surged to Bt1.7 billion from Bt777 million in 2006 after expanding its delivery service to cover a greater number of products, coupled with optimisation of the existing logistics system and its cost-reduction measures.
Woodtipong said that Thailand Post is in talks with the Department of Export Promotion and the Foreign Trade Department on the possibility that it could support exporters with the transport of goods nationwide to help the exporters cut logistics costs.
"We expect to reach a conclusion on the deal soon," he said.
