operators to jointly promote low call rate

The cellular operators might jointly promote their existing packages of the low-prepaid call rate in a larger scale, in response to the Commerce Ministry's request that they should reduce the call rates to help low-income people.

Wichian Mektrakarn, president of Advanced Info Service, said he informed the Commerce Minister Mingkwan Sangsuwan on the plan in the meeting between the cellular operators and the minister on Friday.

He said that the cellular operators would finalise the plan and are expected to announce the details on Wednesday.

The major cellular operators have recently introduced the new prepaid call promotions, featuring the similar call rate of 50 satang per minute to all networks but during certain periods, except the peak hour period.

True Corp Plc told the press after the meeting with Mingkwan that True has to consult with creditors and its concession owner TOT Plc before it could make the final decision on the call rate reduction. But it is willing to support the state policy.
