Super Aguri secures backing for 2008 season

Melbourne (dpa) - The Super Aguri Formula One confirmed Monday that it has secured the financial backing necessary for it to compete in 2008, beginning at this weekend's season-opening Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

The Japanese team has reached agreement with Magma Group regarding the acquisition of Super Aguri and has also reached agreement with Honda regarding technical cooperation and the supply of engines.

Super Aguri have struggled for financial support since being founded in 2005 by former driver Aguri Suzuki and missed most of winter testing as a result.

But now the financial issues appear resolved for the time being, allowing Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson to be confirmed as drivers. The pair will now concentrate on the season ahead.

"Our winter preparation has not been as comprehensive as we had wished. However, we always get over these difficulties and keep pushing forward with our fighting spirit," said Sato.

"I hope that we can maintain this through the coming season and make up for some lost time."
