Argentina to play Egypt without Tevez

Buenos Aires (dpa) - Argentina coach Alfio Basile did not call Manchester United star Carlos Tevez Tuesday for the friendly game against Egypt in Cairo on March 26.

Boca Juniors' Juan Roman Riquelme and Barcelona's Lionel Messi, who is currently injured, were also absent from Basile's list.

"I will test playing without a playmaker. Perhaps the idea is to have Luis Gonzalez playing more aggressively starting from the midfield," the coach said.

Bordeaux striker Fernando Cavenaghi was the main surprise in the Argentina squad, while Inter Milan's Julio Cruz and Porto's Luis Gonzalez and Lisandro Lopez returned to the national team.

"We are going to play a team that beat everyone at the African Nations Cup. It is a very good rival," Basile noted.
