"I consulted the Council of State's secretary-general and he suggested I should stay on," Surapong said after the Cabinet meeting yesterday.
Legal experts had differing views on whether Surapong and two other ministers should be suspended from their duties after the Assets Examination Committee filed charges against them to the Supreme Court over alleged abuse of power in launching the two and three- digit lotteries in 2003.
As the finance minister, Surapong has a busy travel itinerary ahead of him. He is scheduled to go to Japan this month to sign the loan pact with Japan Bank for International Cooperation. The next trip is to Vietnam for the Asean Finance Ministers' Meeting.
Then he will be off to Washington DC for the annual meeting of the World Bank in April, before proceeding to New York and London to promote investment.
