Miami's Wade to miss remainder of season

Los Angeles (dpa) - With nothing left to play for but pride, the league-worst Miami Heat decided on Monday to shut down All-Star guard Dwyane Wade for the remainder of the season.

Wade will undergo OssaTron treatment, a form of shock wave therapy on his surgically repaired left knee, that is expected to keep the 2006 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player sidelined for the next month.

The procedure which is non-surgical and will take approximately 30 minutes will be performed later this week. After the procedure is completed Wade will be limited to passive exercise for the first 30 days and he can then slowly return to basketball-related activities.

Despite battling knee tendinitis, Wade averaged a team-high 24.5 points - fifth best in the NBA - 6.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 51 games for the Heat (11-50) this season.
