The Assets Examination Committee (AEC) yesterday filed suits against 47 people including three ministers of the Samak Cabinet, ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra and his former cabinet members, high level officials, and the Government Lottery Office (GLO) board over the decision to introduce the two- and three-digit lottery in 2003.

AEC lawyer Sithichok Sricharoen filed the suit with the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holders accusing the 47 of embezzlement, having vested interests, overpayment of assets, failure to collect tax and dereliction of duty.

The lawyer also requested the court to order the 47 to pay the state Bt14 billion in damages incurred from the lottery scheme.

The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holders chairman Kriangchai Jungjaturapit said the court will decide at 10am on May 14 whether to accept the suit.

He notified Supreme Court president Virat Limvicha about calling a general meeting to select the judging panel by March 24.
