The move follows the request by new transport minister, Santi Prompat, for the airline to review its plans to lease the aircraft.

Apinan said the board would discuss the matter after a minor reshuffle of its members. Shareholders will meet on April 9 to replace five board members who are leaving their posts. - Dow Jones Newswires.

Rice crackdown

Commerce Minister Mingkwan Sangsuwan has ordered a check of all government rice stockpiles following repeated reports of missing rice and a case last week in which 12,000 tonnes went missing from a government warehouse in Chiang Rai.

He said officers and millers would be punished stringently if further stocks were missed during the weeklong check.

The government has about 2.1 million tonnes of rice in warehouses in 18 provinces. - The Nation.

Billboard row

The Advertising and Sign Producers' Association will arrange a seminar before the end of next month to discuss regulations related to advertising billboards in Bangkok.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has warned it may remove up to 95 per cent of the city's 1,700 billboards, but association chairman Noppadon Tansalarak said it was impossible to remove that many.

Participants at the seminar are expected to include the Public Works and Town and Country Planning Department, billboard operators and advertisers.

Noppadon foresees a lacklustre year for billboard advertising because of the regulation issue and continued political instability. Billboards account for 5 per cent of total advertising. - The Nation

New homes

Builders of new homes signed contracts worth Bt300 million as a result of a three-day event called New Home Builder 3 at Central Lat Phrao last weekend.

    The Home Builders' Asso-

ciation expects new contracts arising from the event to reach a value of Bt500 million, mainly because the event showcased as many as 1,000 new house models, said president Sakda Kovisut. - The Nation.
