Juventus resume winning at Genoa

Milan - Juventus ended a bad run late Sunday by winning 2-0 at Genoa to secure third place in the Italian Serie A.

After notching a single point from their last three games, the Turin side took home three points through first-half goals from Zdenek Grygera and David Trezeguet.

Their 14th win pushed them on to 51 points from 27 games as title holders Inter Milan remain top on 64 and Roma trail seven points adrift with 11 games left.

Both Inter and Roma won 2-0 their earlier games with Reggina and Napoli, respectively.

As in their latest outings, Juve seemed to have problems creating offensive schemes, but managed to close the first half two goals up largely thanks to the great form of Grygera.

The Czech defender on 25 minutes pounced on a loose ball outside the area, drilling a smashing drive to the right of the diving Alessio Scarpi.

Eight minutes later, he left two defenders standing before feeding an assist for the lurking Trezeguet, who ended a month-long dry patch and drew level with Genoa's Marco Borriello as league top scorer on 16 goals.

The hosts came close only on 51 minutes as Gianluigi Buffon slapped against his right post an attempted clearance from Giorgio Chiellini, who blocked a deflection from Borriello.

Borriello had no luck with two wide efforts as Juve threatened with drives from substitute Vincenzo Iaquinta and Trezeguet and with a close-range break by Mauro Camoranesi.

In earlier action, Fiorentina lost 1-0 at Siena and occupy the last of four available Champions League berths on 47 points. Fifth- place AC Milan moved within one point thanks to a 3-1 win clinched at struggling Empoli with late goals from Massimo Ambrosini and Brazilian Kaka.
