Budget disbursement exceeds 2007 level

Budget disbursement during October and February totalled Bt613.4 billion, or 36.95 per cent of the total budget for the 2008 fiscal year, according to the Comptroller General's Office.

The Thai government plans to spend Bt1.66 trillion in the fiscal year.

The office said that the disbursed sum is 2.71 per cent higher than the same period a year earlier.

The Thai Red Cross Society, public organisations and state enterprises are the units that disbursed the highest amounts of their allocated budgets; 80.74 per cent, 72.18 per cent and 55.72 per cent, respectively.

In February alone, the disbursement totalled Bt108.6 billion, or 6.54 per cent of the annual budget. The disbursement in the month was 5.64 per cent lower than the same period a year earlier, due to the delayed enactment of the 2008 budget law which just took effect on January 9.
