The SET and many other organisations are co-hosting the fifth annual Capital Market for Students programme.

Agencies involved include the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organisations (FeTCO), listed companies, brokerages, investment management firms and charitable organisations. Over the past four years, the programme has attracted 25,000 students and, this year, there are still vacancies at 25 listed firms.

The summer break is a good time for university and high school students to gain work experience or to make a social contribution. The project's practical orientation will prepare some for a profession in the capital market and give them confidence. With the cooperation of listed companies, securities firms and investment management firms, students can become familiar with  the Thai capital market.

SET coordinates the interns' participation and anticipates about 5,000 students being involved this year. About 120 organisations each year support the Capital Market for Students,SET president Patareeya Benjapolchai said.

"Besides acting as an application centre for students and a dissemination point for participating organisations, the Exchange provides allowances to students who choose to do their internship at one of 13 charitable organisations," Patareeya said.

Other activities for young people hosted by capital market organisations include SET's Thai Chess Training and Workshop and the Thai Investors Association'sNew Investors Program which draw 300 students annually.
