No plan to keep diesel below Bt30 per litre

Energy Minister Poonpirom Liptapanlop insisted on Thursday that the diesel subsidy will not incur debts, like the previous subsidy policy.

She also noted that despite the subsidy, the ministry has no policy to keep diesel price below Bt30 per litre.

"Oil prices are subject to market mechanism," she said, adding that the subsidy will not incur debts as all the funds come from contributions from petrol and gasohol sales to the Oil Fund. While the monthly contributions are about Bt900 million, the subsidy will require only about Bt500-Bt600 million per month, she said.

Poonpirom called for the press conference today after the ministry announced the subsidy of 90 satang per litre for diesel, to relieve consumers' burden.
