Austrian sponsor promises big bonus for Euro 2008 title

Vienna (dpa) - Austria will get 1 million euros (1.52 million dollars) from a sponsor in the unlikely event of winning the Euro 2008 title, the APA news agency reported on Tuesday.

APA said that finance service company PayLife is ready to splash out the bonus, with 500,000 euros going to the team and the other 500,000 for talent scouting.

Austria is rank outsider at the June 7-29 tournament it hosts together with Switzerland, having won just one match in the past 15 months. Coach Joseph Hickersberger hopes that the team survives the group stage from group B which also features Germany, Croatia and Poland.

PayLife will reportedly dish out 750,000 euros if the team makes the final, and 500,000 euros for a semi-final berth.
