Commerce pushes for price cuts

Electrical appliance manufacturers will meet with the Commerce Ministry on Thursday to discuss a possible reduction in product prices.

Internal Trade Department Director-General Yanyong Phuangrach said on Wednesday that the meeting follows the fierce competition in the industry, which should pave way for price cuts.

Yanyong also noted that palm and soybean oil producers would also be invited for a discussion. He noted that though palm oil demand remains high due to the demand for alternative fuel, the situation should improve soon now that new palm kernels have hit the market. At present, palm kernels are priced Bt4.50-Bt5.60 per kg, from Bt6.50 earlier this year.

The Commerce Ministry on Tuesday announced that pork price at some shops would be cut from Bt120 per kg to Bt98.
