Bird flu suspected

A Chaiyaphum man is suspected of having contracted bird flu after he ate chicken and fell ill with a high fever, health officials said.

Promma Kulkasem, 57, was admitted to Chaiyaphum Hospital yesterday after falling sick with flu-like symptoms on Saturday.

Promma told officials one of his chickens had died and he roasted and ate it before he fell ill.

Promma is under close observation in the intensive care unit and a laboratory test will determine whether he has caught bird flu.
