February's CPI reaches highest record

The Kingdom's consumer price index (CPI) surged to 5.4 per cent on the yearly basis in February, the highest record in 20 months since June 2006.

Deputy Commerce Permanent Secretary Pairoa Sudsawarng said on Monday that the high inflation stemmed from the skyrocketing food and beverage price, which expanded 7.9 per cent.   Nonfood item prices surged 4 per cent.

However, the CPI in the month increased only 0.7 per cent compared with the January's figure.
