Rolls-Royce starts year well in Asia

Rolls-Royce is off to a flying start in Asia this year with four orders for jet engines worth a total of US$3.25 billion (Bt103 billion).

Thai Airways International ordered Trent 700 engines worth $500 million for eight A330-300s, and Hong Kong Airlines ordered Trent 700 engines worth $1.2 billion for 20 A330-30s.

China Airlines opted for Trent XWB engines worth $1.3 billion for up to 20 A350 XWB aircraft, while Bangkok Airways ordered Trent XWB engines worth $250 million for up to six A350 XWB aircraft.

Delivery will be from 2009-2016.

"Significantly, over half of the total value of our orders this year originates from Asia, illustrating the importance of our continued commitment to the region," San Padley, managing director of Rolls-Royce (Thailand), said last week.

"Thailand also features very strongly in our 2008 order book with nearly 25 per cent of the value of Asian orders placed by airlines in Thailand."

All the engines will be supported by the company's TotalCare service, which is tailor-made for individual operators and covers all aspects of asset management.
