His Majesty the King has approved the appointment of Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva as the opposition leader.

The Democrats turned out in full force yesterday to attend the ceremony to receive the royal command and congratulate their party leader on his new job.

"I pledge to do my work with honesty and in accordance with the intent of the 2007 Constitution," Abhisit said in acknowledging the royal command.

He said the opposition and its shadow cabinet would live up to public expectations in steering the country out of turmoil.
