Survey sees 70-per-cent turnout in Senate vote

EC member Prapun Naigowit said yesterday the Electoral Commission has been campaigning to get voters to go to tomorrow's polls by "knocking on doors".

A survey showed that most people in provinces where there are contests, such as Phuket, know that tomorrow is Senate election day and 70 per cent said they intended to vote, Prapun said.

The survey also found that some senate candidates have resorted to appeals to supporters of MPs to win the election.

"If we find that any political parties supporting any candidates, then legal action will be taken against them for electoral fraud,'' Prapun said.

The Senate appoints ombudsmen and judges, including Constitution Court judges. It is intended to be above party politics.
