UK minister in Thailand

Meg Munn, the UK Foreign Office Minister with responsibility for Southeast Asia, started a three-day visit to Thailand yesterday. She is the first British minister to visit since the restoration of democratic government in Thailand.

"I am delighted that the UK can resume normal bilateral ministerial exchanges with Thailand," she said.

"I am looking forward to meeting the foreign and interior ministers and the deputy commerce minister, as well as representatives of civil society and business. Foreign Secretary David Miliband has asked me to explore the scope for working directly with Minister Noppadon [Pattama] on a range of foreign policy issues, including Burma, where there is an overwhelming need to promote dialogue and political reconciliation.
