PAD warns of manipulation

The People's Alliance for Democracy will not oppose the return of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to face charges, it said in a statement yesterday.

Published on February 28, 2008

"The PAD has never opposed Thaksin's homecoming, although he's trying to politicise the issue to manipulate public sentiment," the statement said.

It called on the Samak government to fulfil campaign pledges to forge reconciliation and resolve the grievances.

It is closely monitoring "suspicious activities" suggesting the government wants Thaksin to retake power. It warned the government not to accord Thaksin special privileges.
