Compensation plan for officials

Labour Minister Urai-wan Thienthong yesterday said she was considering allowing government officials to benefit from the social welfare scheme for work-related injuries Uraiwan said she had instructed the Social Security Office (SSO) to study her proposal to compensate tens of thousands of government workers with money if they sustained injuries in the line of duty.

The minister was speaking after an inspection visit to the SSO. She said later she would not order the transfers of ministry or SSO officials "without good reason".

The minister also called on SSO officials not to "dance upon her too much", and said they should stick to the spirit rather than the letter of the law.

She said SSO officials should perform their tasks through teamwork and should avoid following their own individual agendas.
