Victims of loan shark seek action

More than 700 people called on Sakon Nakhon Governor Pairat Sakonphan yesterday to take action against a loan shark and rallied in front of the Provincial Hall.

According to the demonstrators, they were lured into signing a blank paper to get loans and that after they repaid all the principal and interest, the loan shark then seized their plots of land and houses.

The demonstrators demanded Pairat help return their houses and land to those who had already fully repaid the loan shark, and reduce the interest rate to the legal level of 15 per cent a year.

"The loan shark should be stripped of Thai nationality," Thongdee Tupila, an ex-communist and protest leader, said.
