"Suvitcha Leenutaphong, managing director of MTM, is my brother, and we decided to open a joint showroom in Siam Paragon to better promote both brands," Vitchuda Leenutaphong, managing director of SL International Automobiles, said.
"Most of the sales will be of MTM as Spyker is a very exotic sports car and most customers who decide to buy one have already made up their minds, without having to see the car in Thailand. The purpose of having the Spyker here is to promote the brand," Vitchuda said.
Spyker has to date sold two vehicles in Thailand, one costing Bt45 million and another costing Bt55 million. MTM, however, has sold more than 50 units since the company was set up early last year.
MTM specialises in selling modified high-performance versions of Audis like the RS4, S3 and TT.
"This year we hope to sell 120 units, of which 70 per cent is likely to come from sales of the TT," Suvitcha Leenutaphong, managing director of MTM Thailand, said.
"The TT is an attractive sports car and costs between Bt4.9 million and Bt5.2 million. There are very few cars in this segment that are so attractive," Suvitcha said.
Spyker has another showroom at Surasak Road, which it will keep open. MTM also has another showroom at Sukhumvit 101. The new site is expected to attract more customers due to its prime location.
"Since we opened the showroom in Siam Paragon, we've already sold eight units of MTM," Suvitcha said.
"Of these, six have been the TT. Many of the customers we sold cars to at this showroom are also walk-in customers who did not know about the MTM brand," Suvitcha added.
