GTH bids to produce 7 movies

GMM Tai Hub (GTH), the film-production arm of GMM Grammy, will spend about Bt240 million this year to make six or seven movies in a bid to raise its revenue to Bt500 million.

CEO Visute Poolvoralaks said Bt300 million to Bt350 million was expected to be generated from box-office sales.

The other revenue would come from other businesses such as the sale of its sound tracks, VCD and DVD rights in the international market as well as cable networks Last year, it produced five feature films, earning revenue of Bt400 million.

GTH plans to be No 1 in three categories of films: romance, horror and comedy.

He said the company expected each movie to generate at least Bt51 million on average this year, the same as last year.

Visute said the value of the local film industry last year was Bt1.7 billion, up from Bt1.1 billion the previous year.

Much of the gains were made from the release of the first two parts of the King Naresuan trilogy.

Visute expects the value of the film industry this year to be worth Bt1.5 billion.

GTH is the No-2 player in the market, trailing Sahamongkol Film International.
