The Taiwan Visitors Association, with assistance from Taiwan's Tourism Bureau, will send a promotional delegation for tomorrow's tourism workshop at Swissotel Le Concorde Bangkok, according to a statement from the association.

Some 250 to 300 of Thailand's tourism leaders are invited to attend.

The event provides an opportunity for businessmen from both countries to get to know each other and develop strategic alliances in promoting tourism in both countries.

According to a report from Kasikorn Research Centre, more than 3.7 million Thais headed abroad last year, with more than 85 per cent of them choosing countries in Asia as their destinations. And according to statistics from the government in Taiwan, 30 per cent more Thais visited Taiwan last year, showing that the Thai source market has great potential.

"2008-2009 is the 'Tour Taiwan Year', and we hope that Taiwan will become one of the main destinations for Thailand's outbound travellers," the association said.

The Taiwan Visitors Association will also participate in the TTAA International Travel Fair 2008 to be held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre from Thursday to Monday.

According to the association, Taiwan's promotional activities are varied, including encouraging Thai parents and children to travel together to enjoy the natural beauty of old Formosa.

Well-known folk-dance group the Lan Yang Dancers and Chen Mau-chuan, a specialist in paper-fan making and silhouette paper-cutting, will also be giving performances to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Taiwan.
