The court also ordered Boonreung Katasarn to pay Bt8 million in compensation to the infant's father. He had initially asked for Bt11 million.
The lawsuit said that from March 18 to 20 last year, the nanny bashed the 22-day-old baby's head against hard objects many times cracking the boy's skull and bruising his brain and causing bleeding. She also hit the boy's back, chest, stomach and legs resulting in broken bones. This occurred in Bangkok's Bang Sue district.
The boy remained unconscious in Bumrungrad Hospital's intensive care unit for over 20 days and doctors said that if he had not received treatment in time he could have died.
The boy could still develop seizures.
Boonreung at first said the boy's injuries were from a bath-time accident, but later confessed to police investigators that she struck him out of rage when he cried.
The court initially sentenced Boonreung to five-years in prison; but following her confession cut the term by half.
Since her brutal and serious assault was made on a mere 22-day-old boy, the court did not suspend the imprisonment and ordered her to pay the compensation to the boy's father.
