Ambrose Wine hopes Voss is boss at top end of bottled-water market

Ambrose Wine has added Voss artesian water from Norway to its line of imported wines and spirits in a bid to tap the top end of the booming bottled-water market.

"This is the first non-alcohol product imported to Thailand by Ambrose. We have brought in only 3,000-4,000 cases since October. Voss is very well known among Hollywood superstars and celebrities like Madonna, Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan," managing director Somphon Charumil-inda said on Wednesday.

Sourced from a glacier-fed aquifer in the south of Norway, Voss is the epitome of purity with an eye-catching cylinder-shape bottle, he said.

"In Thailand, Voss is exclusively available in five-star hotels, classy restaurants, hip clubs and prestigious resorts. It is the water of high purchasing-power consumers due to its highest price in the water market, Bt180-Bt200 for 375cc and Bt300 for 800cc," he added.

At the time when healthy, pure and luxurious lifestyle products attract more attention than ever, the media, celebrities, five-star restaurants, bars, hotels, water connoisseurs and beverage marketers have discovered Voss water.

Bottled in Iveland under strict supervision of the Norwegian Institute of Water Research, Voss is low in minerals and sodium and pure, which complements food and wines.

The Voss name is a clear reminder of the brand's Norwegian heritage. The founders wanted a traditional Norwegian name that was catchy and easy to pronounce.

"Thais like to test something different among those who enjoy fine wines. Voss has a particularly strong reputation, originating from its pure and neutral taste. When you have such a unique bottle, the other water you have is less brilliant" Somphon said.

More than 10 million bottles of Voss will quench the thirst of residents in more than 34 US states, through some 1,400 locations. Voss is also an option for sophisticated palates in Japan, the Middle East, Mexico and some European countries.
