PM denies 'meet' with Thaksin

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej yesterday dismissed reports that he was going to meet deposed premier Thaksin Shinawatra during his official visit to Cambodia next month.

"I don't know anything about this," Samak said. He was responding to a news report that claimed he was going to meet the ousted premier during his visit to Phnom Penh on March 3.

"If there is such a plan, I as the prime minister have to know about it in advance. But there is no such appointment," he said

A news report had said earlier that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen had invited Thaksin for a game of golf in Cambodia during the same period that Samak would be in the country.

Thai Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama also denied that there was going to be such meeting.

Prior to the trip to Cambodia, Samak said he would also make a two-day visit to Laos on February 29.

"The purpose of my visit is to introduce myself," Samak said.

Samak said he hoped to visit Thailand's other neighbours, Malaysia and military-ruled Burma, but gave no further details.
