Death threat sent to Chelsea boss Grant

London (dpa) - A death threat of an anti-Semitic nature has been sent to the manager of English football club Chelsea, police revealed Wednesday.

Police said that Chelsea's training ground at Cobham, south of London, was sealed off Tuesday after a member of staff opened a package addressed to the 52-year-old Israeli manager.

It contained some powder which an accompanying letter claimed was lethal but turned out to be harmless. The letter also included racist abuse against the manager and his wife Tzofit, a television personality in Israel.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: "We were called to Chelsea's training ground at Cobham at 12.15pm yesterday after they received a suspicious package.

"A white powder contained within the package was analysed by specialists from Surrey Fire Service and was determined to be a harmless substance.

"Detectives are continuing investigations to identify the source of the package."

Chelsea were away in Greece for a Champions League tie against Olympiakos when the package was delivered. They drew 0-0.
