'Love of Siam' bags 3 Subhanahongsa awards

Romantic and family drama "Rak Hang Siam" ("Love of Siam") won three major awards at the national film contest last night.

It received the Subhanahongsa Awards for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actress (Chermal Bunyasak) and was nominated for 13 of 16 awards up for grabs.

Film director Chookiat Sakveerakul said it were his parents who gave him the understanding of what love was all about and he also paid tribute to the movie's actors and actresses. "this award is not for me alone, but for all who acted in the film," he said.

Meanwhile the film producer Prachaya Pinkaew said he thanked "Sia Jieng" (Somsak Techarattanaprasert), the chief executive of Sahamongkol Film, for not allowing commercial gains be the priority in producing "Rak Hang Siam".

An action drama on Thai boxing titled "Chaiya" clinched the Best Actor (Akara Amarttayakul) and Best Supporting Actor (Sonthaya Chitmanee) awards.

The country's first gay drama "Phuean Koo Rak Mueng Wa" ("Bangkok Love Story") won 13 awards including Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography.

Best Actress Award went to Marsha Wattanapanich for her rold in "Faed" ("Alone"), and best Song Award went tp "Parinippan" from "The Life of Buddha".

The Subhanahongsa Awards ceremony was held at Siam Niramitr Theatre at attended by about 1,000 celebrities.
