Border policemen 'terrified' in prison

A former drug suspect who claims he was a victim of the "border patrol gang" yesterday said he had faced two of his former captors when he was briefly detained in prison.

He said one the captors had cried and prostrated before him to apologise.

Jakkawan Onma gave his statement to Bang Phat police yesterday, saying that Pol Corporal Neramit Jutamitr and a police sergeant-major were terrified during their brief detention together at Bang Bon Prison.

"Both of them were scared most of the time and hardly moved in the cell. I had to get them pillows on their first night because they were too scared to talk with other inmates," he added.

Jakkawan, who was released temporarily last Wednesday to fight the police allegations, said Neramit told him that ringleader Pol Captain Nat Chonnithiwanit had stolen about Bt3 million from a businesswoman and given himself and each member Bt400,000, before he was arrested.

Jakkawan said Nat's team had raided his apartment in western Bangkok on December 27 last year and planted 138 amphetamine tablets in his room, before taking a wristwatch and Bt800 in cash.

Nat forced Jakkawan to sign a confession and handed him and a friend over to local police in Phasi Charoen district, he added.
