Retail pork Bt120/kg

The Internal Trade Department yesterday raised the farm price of pork from Bt44-Bt45 per kilogram to Bt59-Bt61, resulting in the retail price rising from Bt95-Bt100 to Bt120 per kilo.

To cushion the impact on consumers, the department will soon revise its formula for calculating the retail pork price, which should bring the price down to less than Bt120 per kilo, director-general Yangyong Phuangrach said.

BAY buyout

Bank of Ayudhya has completed its planned Bt16.18-billion buyout of GE Capital Auto Lease (GECAL).

GECAL is Thailand's second-largest auto hire-purchase loan provider, with assets of Bt80.3 billion.

The acquisition boosted the assets of the country's sixth-largest bank by 18 per cent.

HSBC bills

HSBC has launched a promotion giving customers in Thailand the right to invest in one-month bills of exchange carrying 8.5-per-cent interest per year, provided they buy units worth more than Bt1 million of its foreign investment fund.

Wichit Phayuhanaveechai, HSBC's head of personal finance services, said the offer was to mark the bank's 120th anniversary in the Kingdom.
