Their scores, though not used to grade their academic performances, are indicators of the quality of educational services.
"Most of all students in Grade 3 and Grade 9 showed up for the tests," Bureau of Education Testing director Jitpreeya Chaisriprom said yesterday.
Her bureau is under the supervision of the Office of Basic Education Commis-sion.
There were about 870,000 students in Grade 3 and 860,000 students in Grade 9.
According to Jitpreeya, the Grade-9 test takers' scores will be announced via www.obec.go.th on March 20.
"The scores will be categorised by subjects for each test taker," she said.
Grade 9 students' national tests covered Thai-language, maths, science, social science and English.
Grade 3 students' national tests covered Thai language and maths.
For Grade 3 students, their national test scores will come out around mid-April.
Jitpreeya expected the average national scores to rise by two per cent this year, given that schools were already instructed to improve their teaching methods based on the result of 2007 national tests - and that students now paid more attention to the tests.
