Chasing shadows

Many people disagree with the move to form a shadow cabinet because it could further divide an already polarised society, a survey showed yesterday.

Almost 62 per cent of the 3,219 respondents disagreed with the idea, compared to slightly over 30 per cent who favoured the plan, results of the Dusit Poll revealed.

More than 62 per cent said there should be only one real Cabinet as its existence is supported by law, unlike a shadow cabinet, which has no clear mandate or responsibility.

More than 14 per cent said many members of the shadow body are better known and more experienced than those in the Cabinet.

The survey was conducted in Bangkok and 11 provinces.
