In this three-month period, Seri said, authorities will make sure all business establishments involved understand exactly what the legal ramifications are if they break the ban.Seri said that during this period, instead of fining violators immediately, authorities would first issue an oral warning and then a written warning for the second violation. If there was a third violation of the ban, then legal action would be taken even within the three month period.

RCA Molly Bar patron Athiwat Boonkaewkwan said he was worried that half of his customers would be gone when the new rule came into effect because most of his customers were smokers.

Earlier yesterday city deputy police commissioner Maj-General Suporn Phanseua said Bangkok's 88 police stations were ready to arrest and fine any smokers Bt2,000 and venue operators Bt20,000 once the ban was implemented.
