English clubs could play league games overseas

London - English Premier League clubs could find themselves playing one of their matches overseas each season, according to the BBC.

At a meeting in London on Thursday, the BBC said, all 20 clubs agreed to explore a proposal to extend the season from 38 to 39 games, with the extra 10 games to be played at venues around the world, with cities bidding for the right to stage them.

The move follows on from the NFL, who this year staged a regular-season game outside of North America for the first time.

The BBC said the extra matches could be decided by a draw but the top five teams may be seeded to avoid the possibility of them playing against each other.

The report said that there would be five venues, with two games - on a Saturday and Sunday - taking place at each one.
