Leg injury to keep Safin out of Davis Cup

Moscow (dpa) - Russia will be missing sparkplug Marat Safin when they face Serbia led by Australian open champion Novak Djokovic from Friday onwards in the Davis Cup.

The former world number one is out of the World Group first-round tie in Moscow after doctors diagnosed a small fracture in a leg bone.

Russian officials will seek a replacement to fill out a team roster comprising Mikhail Youzhny, Nikolay Davydenko and Dmitry Tursunov.

Igor Andreev is a likely substitute for the tie on indoor hardcourt.
