Critics doubtful over Samak Cabinet

The newly appointed Samak Cabinet has come under skepticism if it can deliver accomplishments as the public wishes.

Khon Kaen Provincial Federation of Industries secretary-general Withoon Kamolnarumet said the selection of people to fill the Samak Cabinet was merely to cater to the desire of politicians because each minister was not appointed in according to his or her knowledge and experience. "This means these ministers do not intend to come in to solve the country's problems,'' he said.

He gave the appointment of Suwit Khunkitti as Deputy Prime Minister and Industry Minister as example. Suwit was in charge of several ministries but he failed to deliver any concrete achievement. "He has never sat at the Industry Ministry and he is not an industrialist. We are worried if if he can solve problems in the industry sector,'' he said.

Nirand Kulathanant, a lecturer of Buri Ram Rajabhat University said the Samak Cabinet was a "yuck" government from day one. "Even though it has not wielded any arms, the public has cried foul. It is just putting wrong person for the job especially at the Finance Ministry which the public has high hope of solving economic problems. But we get a doctor and a nurse to be in charge there,'' he said.

However, Nirand said he gave the Samak Cabinet six months to show performance. "After that there must be a Cabinet reshuffle, if it wants to survive. This government will not live long. If it survives for one year, it is lucky,'' he said.
