King's plea to Cabinet

His Majesty the King yesterday told newly sworn-in Cabinet members to match their words with action and ensure peace and prosperity for the nation.

The King said the populace had pinned much hope and expectation on the new government.

"Words are honourable if they are matched by action because if you speak without doing, your words will carry no honour," His majesty said.

His Majesty said ministerial positions were essential to the country's well-being as ministers are seen as phuyai [elders], whom the people expect to resolve their grievances.

"It may appear odd that 35 individuals have to sacrifice themselves for a population of 63 million - this is so because the people have come to expect the Cabinet to work for them," the monarch said, reminding the prime minister and ministers not to let the people down.

"May each of you try to fulfil what you have just sworn to do. Even a little success is good," he said. "It would be so much

better the more you

can accomplish with

honesty."
