'Don't hog plum jobs'

Many government MPs from the North are reported keen to sit on and chair three House committees - agriculture, telecommunications and tourism.

But their enthusiasm is not applauded by MP Surapong Towijakchaikul from Chiang Mai.

"In my opinion, ex-committee members should move to other assignments in order to make room for junior MPs," he said yesterday.

Surapong said he anticipated no infighting among the northern MPs in the allocation of committee seats - but he rebuked his colleagues from the Northeast for vying for plum jobs.

The House special committee in charge of drafting legis-lative procedures is expected to finalise its decision next week whether to increase the number of standing committees.

At yesterday's meeting, it agreed to allow the live broadcast of House sessions, scheduled twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays. State-run Channel 11 is expected to provide the news coverage.
